Greasing u-joints on 97 4wd Tahoe.
Do you have to drop the drive shafts to grease the u-joints? The grease gun fitting seems to be too large and is hitting the yoke when I try to connect it to the grease fitting/zerk. Has anyone ever used one of those needle grease connections? Not the small needles used to stick through the boot, but the one that is about 1/4". It looks like you press the end of it to the ball on the grease fitting instead of connecting over the grease fitting. Has anyone used this type grease gun fitting? Or is it just supposed to be inserted under the boot?

Re: Greasing u-joints on 97 4wd Tahoe.
Yes, I have used this "Needle" type fitting on my grease gun. I use it on my fittings on my u-joints and it works well, but they sound like a different type than yours. It is a small dished out area in the end of one of the u-joint bearing caps, with a small hole in it.
I think the tip would work on a regular fitting like yours, but don't know for sure. There are also a lot of regular external type grease gun tips out there of course, and some may have a smaller dia. tip that may get into the "crotch" of the joint where your fittings are. Mine just have plugs there... Good luck! |
