Re: I have a 91 celica GT

Wait so if I out like a new exhaust and intake and e z stuff like that i will get maybe like 30hp gain but it wont perform good under regular driving conditions? Or does that apply to any car thats been moded in any way that increases HP alot? And by mod bug you mean ME GETTING ADDICTED to moding my car? Like a head swap? Lol i know thats prob what you ment but maybe not i dunno :-P so a heavily moded car doesnt perfom good for regular driving? Why is this? if that it what u said though.. :-)

Re: I have a 91 celica GT

Ogh and reason i wanna sell my 91 GT to get a 94-99 GT is because of the exterior looks :-) the car looks so nice with the stock body, i like how 5th gen looks to with a read drop so its evend out with the front, not a low drop just a even out,

Re: I have a 91 celica GT

You're not going to get 30HP out of just an intake and an exhaust. Some mild head work, timing adjustements, etc... I was trying to say you wouldn't obtain 200HP that easily.

You're not going to lose THAT much driveability. When you start trying to add HP, you may end up losing a little bit of low end grunt. There are tradeoffs to be made.

By mod bug I mean you getting addicted. And you wouldn't be swapping to any other engine if you had a GT4/Alltrac. The 3S-GTE has plenty of power potential. I've got just about 17k into my GT4 including the car, but not including normal maintanence. It all adds up.

A heavily modded car is going to sacrafice realibility at some point. Whether it be 300/400/500HP, who knows.. It depends on your definition of reliable.

as i see it... there are a few things you can do to boost to your hp to 200, but it might be expensive...

1. Cold air intake-(20 hp) and will improve gas mileage.
2. Exhast (hp will depend on kind of exhaust on how much you spend)
3. Adjust your timing 10-12 degrees for a little boost (10-30 at best)

There are other extremes like valve jobs, stroke kits, etc... but seeing that you may not know what to do, that is probably out of the question.

If you want that 200 hp, there is only one other solution I can think of.. and it's expensive, with no engine swap.. but you can KILL YOURSELF if your use it too much as you could blow the block.

NOS

Becareful with this stuff... since you are new, probably have a heay foot, and don't know what this stuff can do... but in my opinion, it's the only way you would ever meet your 200 hp without an enigine swap.. (if you blow the block, then you probably will) Do some research on it... if you cann't have it all the time, you can use the nos to impress the ladies. Good luck

Re: I have a 91 celica GT

That is b.s. There is NO WAY in h#@! you're going to get 20 HP from a cold air intake!!!!

Adjust timing 10-12 degrees? Do you really know what you are messing with?

This is horrible advice! No offense, gtkriss, but that is just far from the truth.

I would be very very very careful before following those steps to happiness....

i agree.. the most i have ever seen out of a cold air intake is like 15hp and thats on a fully modded car with the 3sgte engine... and wut does he mean by "but in my opinion, it's the only way you would ever meet your 200 hp without an enigine swap."??? didnt i say earlier that there are ten second cars with the 5sfe engine?? am i supposed to believe that they have under 200hp?? anything can be done if you have enough money

Re: I have a 91 celica GT

hey, that was just an estimation... not an actual calculation.. as for the timing.. that always has done wonders....

yeah, well someone's going to read that, do it, then f%(# their car up!

Advancing your timing isn't as simple as changing your oil. Becareful what you say.

ok, ok.. fine... Droog, don't advance your timing.... Unless you know how to static time, or have a timing light and know how to use that... Etiher that or take it to someone who knows what i'm talking about and will do it for you...
