Higher the octane, the more compression/spark you need to ignite it. If you have a realy high HP all drag motor alot of times it runs on like 115+ octange and they have to spray 87 octane down the intake just to get it to ignite. the lower the octane rating the easyer it is to ignite.

Highest pump gas here is 94, alot of stations have Cam2 leaded and unleaded and i belive those are around 115. I usally use 89 on my LS, 94 is just a waste, i dont notice any difference from it but 87 to 89 it does seem to run a little better at idle and higher RPMs

What the hell? Nope, sorry thats wrong. octane. The more octane, the more it can HANDLE as far as compression goes. It doesnt need compression to ignite, it can handle more compression before it spontaneously ignites. It will spontaneously combust but the higher the octane rating, the higher the compression needed to combust it.

Leaded gasoline is practically illegal. Lead really doesnt do anything good for the environement. MTBE is what is used now. Ethanol is also better but more expensive, however out of the three it is the safest.
