2002 Tacoma v6 knocks
I've got a 2002 Tacoma dbl cab AT V6. Seems my truck knocks at relatively light loads when I accelerate. Also, in the mornings, it gets hung up on 2nd gear until I push it past 35 mph, afterwhich it shifts to 3rd gear at lower RPM. Anyone else having these issues, and/or have any suggestions to remedy?

Re: 2002 Tacoma v6 knocks
I have a 99 Tacoma 4x4 extra cab v6, and I also have the same problem when I first start the engine in the morning that it gets hung on 2nd gear until I passes 35 mph. I don't have any suggestions. Hope it would not be a major problem later on.

First of all, great truck. I had the misfortune of trading my 2001 DC in for my wifes odyssee. It is actually not getting hung up in second gear. It is programmed to do that so the engine will warm up quicker to reduce emissions. As far as the knocking goes I would try getting your gas from somewhere else and see if that solves the problem. Bad gas will cause knocking, or a gas with too low of an octane rating.

Thank you TomAndHisToyota, that makes me feel much better knowing that it was programmed like that. As for the knocking goes, I have not had any problems, I always used the middle type of fuel "89". Once again, thank you.
