salvage and rebuilt cars?
i spent the first part of my automotive life as a rebuilder of sorts.......... but i find that so many people have a problem with cars that have been wrecked.... i just bought a 92 240 with minnor damage at a salvage auction for 400. bucks... lets put it this way if i did a s13 conversion you would never know its been hit........... i mean no frame damage or nothing...... sorry.. no unibody damage.... so why are so many racers afraid of rebuilding some dumba$$ess wrecked car.... it only costs me 100 bucks to get a rebuild title.. and wallah i am on the street in my sweet s13........ i guess i am just throwing this out there in hopes to make it a little cheaper to have the shizzy car....... look into it.... peace

Re: salvage and rebuilt cars?
It's viola i believe.
Most people keep away from cars with a salvage title because you can never be too sure about the parts that are in it. With a non-salvage car you know that everything on it is stock, unless there have been mods. Even then you know what who you're buying it from has done. And you never know what the previous owner has done with it or to it. Salvage titles DO cost that extra bit, not much IMO, but it is frightening on paper for some people. My brother has a salvage title jeep. The only trouble with it was he had to do some parts hunting to pay for parts, and the seller he went through provided the car and whatever else he could. Honestly I could never see anything wrong with them, but whatever, maybe I'm missing something.

Re: salvage and rebuilt cars?
you raise my point exactly ....... most people think it is safer to buy from people that have clean titles ....... but in my experince as a shop owner you come to call 90 percent of the cars you get from people .... "mcguyvers" because of all the shit they cut and slash to make the nice little neon intirior lights work........ thats why i have converted to the whole salvage thing..... if i rebuild them i know every part of the car....... kind like making it me in a way.... but i do want to warn people that buying used is never a sure fire.... even from a dealer...... so salvage once or never..... whatever is cheaper is better.

My cars been totaled twice! I bought it with a smashed front end, no engine or frame damage, just cosmetic and blown bags, tied the hood down with some rope and drove her home from the junk yard and ripped off the front end, drove her round to make sure it all ran good, went driftin in some parking lots(yes with no front panels)! I was goin to jus rebuild and sell, but when I got to realy drive it, I decided on keepin her adn started ordering the stuff thats on her now. I have bought prob 5 salvage cars and rebuilt them, this 240 is by far the best car ive ever owned!
Oh the first slavage was a rear end hit, I didnt know till after I got home and did a close inspection then checked on the net under it vin number. Hell my car sat most of its life totaled out! But its been fixed Professionly and all new panels were used for replacement, no fillin in the dents. Its jus goin on 70K now though, I only paid 2500 when I got it, and it aint broke down once on me. Hell I got about 15+g's in her now and aint stoppin. I know the S14's are kinda rare in the US, so im just realy glad I can keep this on the streets! I know of another S14 in my town jus sittin in a junk yard, hell it coulda been fixed but they just started sellin everything off it, it was hit in the passenger rear, I about bought it before they stripped it all(well just motor and interior) If anyone is lookin for a wrecked S14, All Quality in DOver, OH has one, pretty srtipped though, would be a great driftin project though! Driver side straight, front end perfect, roofs perfect, passenger door good, pass rear quarter bad and some of rear end bad, all windows good, trunk is pushed in alil. Just letting everyone know, SAVE THE S14'S lol! Umm yeah SO i think Slavage cars are fine, jus look em over real good and be careful when buyin them! |

It's a good deal for the person that buys a salvage car and rebuilds it for use. But if your talking about resale on a car with a salvage title thats been "fixed". I feel there is a reason people dont want or are afraid of them. You just dont know how bad it was or what shortcut's where done bringing it back. Like did the air bags get replaced and hooked-up. Or just bolted in place because they didnt replace the sensors. Small things like that are what make the buyer afraid.
Please keep in mind I am not saying bad things about the way every salvage car or rebuild is. I have done a few of them myself as drivers. But knew getting into them that the resale value would be very low. At the same time You can learn alot by buying & fixing them up. Then make alittle money on it. But dont think your going to make a killing Because they are a hard to sell. Most major lenders wont even loan money on a salvage title. So that cut's the buyer market down to cash GOOD LUCK THERE on anything you think is worth over 5k.
