Any way to fix the "pressure boom" wind noise problem?

I'm wondering if there is any way to fix or lessen the effect of the pressure boom created when driving at speed in an X with one or both back windows down (but not the front). It's quite annoying.

It is very annoying. I have to open a front window if a passenger opens a back one - or I lock them closed.

Pressure Boom...

I hate it too. Reminds me of Physics class, 101... Super crest, super trough.... I've tried to adjust my windows to remove the "noise", but nothing has worked.

How about those people that have the window "shields", do you get the same effect?

Unhappy (scratching head?)

I am still trying to figure out what the hell you guys are talking about? Maybe I am so deaf after 32 years of shooting that this "noise" doesn't bother me? Just get some Bias ply Swampers and you'll probably never hear this noise again!

Only pressure boom I have ever experienced was in the back seat of an F-14 Tomcat! Mach 1.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:sun:

Have you ever tried rolling down one of the rear windows on the freeway? It creates this wierd vacuum. If you crack a front window it stops.

I seem to recall some saying that the vent visors help a bit.
I've found that as long as I don't roll them down more than about 3" I really don't get any noise worth mentioning with the front windows up. Any more and it starts pulsing and doesn't clear until I roll the front windows down a bit as well.

Unhappy Vent Visors

I have had the Vent Visors on the X since day one! I drop all four windows about 3/4" for ventilation. Probably why I didn't notice it! Sorry.......

Can you guys recommend some aftermarket wind visors and do you have them on just the front windows or front and back?

Thanks!

I've got the front & rear made by "ventvisor". They use some 3M tape to stick in place. I cracked the front one by getting a tree branch caught when backing up.

There is another brand that actually slides into the window frame rather than sticking on the out side of the door. Not sure who makes them, but they are about $90 versus $50 for the ventvisors. The ventvisors are the sameones Nissan sells, they just cost a little bit less.

www.xterraparts.com carries the Nissan vent visors. About $55 I believe for a set of 4.

Have you always had them or are they a new addition? If someone knows what "we're" talking about here and can confirm the wind visors work to remove the noise, please let me know. I'll be the next person to order them!

Thanks
Stu

You are talking about the pressure "boom" that is caused when the windows are down.

I had that until I put the vent visors on.. after that the noise went away.
