Replacing Waterpump on 98 Acheiva

The waterpump on my g/f's car just took a shit and I'm wondering how hard it is to replace it. Its a 98 Acheiva. What tools will it require me to have, and what is the process? What would you guys rate this in difficulty from 1-10? 1 being easier and 10 being the hardest. Thanks guys.

Re: Re: Replacing Waterpump on 98 Acheiva

Sorry to hear that...you will out grow it........

Here is the information as you requested.
Water Pump Replacement - Auxiliary 3.1L
Removal Procedure

Notice
When adding coolant, use DEX-COOLŪ coolant. If silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50 000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.

Drain and recover the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
Remove the drive belt.
Remove the coolant pump pulley bolts.
Remove the coolant pump pulley.

Remove the coolant pump attaching bolts.
Remove the coolant pump.
Clean the coolant pump and the sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure

Using a new gasket, install the coolant pump.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the bolts. Tighten
Tighten the coolant pump bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

Install the coolant pump pulley.
Install the drive belt.
Refill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System
Inspect for leaks.

Re: Replacing Waterpump on 98 Acheiva

Yeah that helps alot. But that serpentine belt confuses the crap out of me. I looked down to see where the bolt is for the spring tentioner and it looks like it is going to be a bitch to even get to it with a breaker bar? The serpentine is really what is making me not want to do this. I don't understand why I even have to take the fucking off, since the waterpump pulley rides on the outside of the belt. The shop near my house said it had to come off, and even be replaced because of the coolant that got on it. Couldn't I just take it to the car wash and use the degreaser blower on it?

All you are going to do is move the tensioner (it is spring loaded) to remove and reinstall the belt.
Spend the extra bucks and replace the belt
