replace waterpump on 96 monte

thought it was a few other things but got mech. to tell me its water pump. wants to charge me $200 just for labor to replace. seems simple enough but don't have a hanyes or chilton manual. this is just a fun car and i don't really want to sink money in it i don't have to. anyone have any tips or is there any place online to get directions. thanks for all the help.

kris, do it yourself. waterpump changeout is as easy as it can get.loosen your waterpump pully bolts first. then take off your serp. belt. finish taking off the pully and viola, theres your waterpump with only 5 easy to get to bolts. just remember to bleed the system with the brass bleeders on the gooseneck and on the left/front part of the motor. easy easy job. good luck duane

I agree, plus I think the Haynes manual would be a really good investment. Has lots of pictures and good simple explanations of the procedures.

I also agree, my '96 water pump has been the easiest to replace so far. I would recomend attempting it your self, $200 is a rip off. An experienced mechanic could do it in about 20 minutes. Cleaning off the old gasket is the hardest part.
