Question

What options are there for custom leaf springs? My stock ones are trashed and I'm not sure about alcans with the problems that Kurt had with his. I emailed them and they said there 420$ for the rear set and didn't mention anything about us getting a discount for being with TTORA. It seems like there anoied by people rather than wanting to get us the right products. Who else can we order springs from?

They quoted me $380.00 for the set. I wonder if they raised their prices since I got my quote on Feb 20. I need new spring also so I'm interested to!:bandit:

Did you mention ttora to get a discount? I thought they gave us discounts but they have told a few people that there 210 each side. I thought they were 180 or 190 per side but who knows maybe they did raise there prices. It just seemed like fromt the email they sent me back that I was bothering them with questions. They didn't really answer any of them except that they were 420$. total for the rear.

I didn't say anything about TTORA. I kind of got the same feeling when I e-mail them. The (why is this guy bothering me) feeling. Hey Alcan

Hey Shawn, what is your opinion on Downey's leafs. A guy in the TX chapter got a set for around $189 or so and they were 3.5". I am thinking of going that route...

Later...

Are they for the 98 and ups? I thought they were just for the 95.5 to 97s. If there for the 98's I might just go with those instead or get mine rearched locally. Theres also the Tundra leafs. Someone said there 54.5" long and I think the tacomas are 52.5 so that would make it have a little lift. Just depends on how much it would cost to get a set.

I am checking to see if they fit the later models. There is a guy here in Austin that just installed some. I can't remember what year Tacoma he has though...

Well I talked to some poeple today and was told that the older chevy 4x4 springs are about 52 or 52.5". I still need to do some checking and see if they are the right distance to the center pin but it might be another option as skyjacker sells a few diffrent lift sizes for them. Actually I just checked in a mag and skyjacker has them in 2/4/6/8" lifts starting at 330$ and they are 52" long. The onlt other problem I see besides the center pin would be that I remember them being 3" wide and ours are only about 2.5" wide. It still might be an option though and they would be some nice springs.

They also have esyride springs for up to 6" of lift for 330$ so this would be a good option if the width can be worked around. I would rather have some 3" wide springs anyway.

Maybe they have lift springs for the 2 wheel drive ones that you were looking into?

I think I may just go with the AllPro 56" springs and weld in some new hangars. They have 2 different sizes, they are in stock, and not too bad of a price...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rear Leaf Springs

Our rear springs are 9" longer than factory (79-88) rear springs. Mounting these longer springs will require new spring hangers and relocation of the rear hangers on pre 89 trucks. Our rear springs have 8 leaves, plus a special torque leaf to reduce axle wrap. Springs come with new poly bushings.
56" Rear springs 5 1/2" lift $375
56" Rear springs 4" lift $375

Rear Leaf spring kit 5 1/2" or 4", Springs, hangers, shocks and bushings $499

Rear Spring Hangers
When adding longer rear springs to your truck you will need new rear spring hangers. We wanted to build a heavy duty version of this hanger that would hold up the abuse we put our own trucks through. The result is the spring hanger you see here. It's made from 1/4" think plate steel and is built to handle the abuse of extreme trails. Designed to provide more rock clearance then factory type hangers too. $29.95 each
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shawn, do you know if these are 2.5" wide ?? Is that a Toyota standard width ?? If it will work I may just go with this set up. What do you think. Would this work ?? Will I need to remount the front hangers too so that the bolt hole lines up and the axle ?? I really have no clue, just seemed like a good set up considering I would get better flex w/ the 56" leafs...

Later bud...

They sounds pretty cool but for the price of 500$ you could get any size you wanted from alcan and wouldn't have to go through the work of adding and removing the springs hangers.

Id say those are probably 2.5" wide, I think thats what they all are for the toyotas. You would need to front and probably rear spring hangers though so that the longer springs will stll put the axle in the right location.

Yea your right, although it would be a little cheaper. The AllPro kit comes with the shocks too, not sure what brand though...

If I did decide to go that route, would I just need to move the front hangar 2" and the rear 2" ?? Since the leafs are 56" ??

I may just look into some of those S-10 leafs. Did you ever check intop those ??

Later...

There is a shop up in canada that makes Custom Leaf Springs.
www.customsuspension.com

I bought some custom Toyota leafs and i saved big bucks, I didn't need to pay tax, also our dollar is worth so much more then theirs. They are some pretty nice springs to.

Tacoma custom springs

I have been checking into them for my 98, and I am thinking about going with Northwest Off Road's spring package, or maybe the Camberg Engineering package.

You might want to check them out.
