1/10 tamiya r/c's

first of all, i know this is in wrong section, but to be perfectly honest, i don't click on the other section.

i was just wondering, how much is the average tamiya 1/10 scale remote control car? coz i was thinking of getting one (not that im dropping modeling)

tho i hope they're under 500 bucks....

(battery operated, not fuel)

thanks. david.

Well I haven't been into the hobby much in the last few years, but just 2 or 3 years ago the average tamiya electric with radio and everything needed cost less than 250 usually...if you look for accessories that are better than the low end then I'd say still only 300-350 for everything.

It depends a lot on what radio you choose...I'm not sure if they still sell it, but the futuba magnum sport is a great radio...it's worked flawlessly at distances where I can't even tell which way my truck is pointed. BTW, I have a Team Associated RC10T2 and I love the thing and I can't stress how durable it is.

One thing to consider is the purchase of an ESC (electronic speed control). Many kits (at least a few years ago) came with a mechanical speed control...which isn't as efficient (shorter run times...and with a nice 12 turn or something you will definitely want any extra time to play with it you can get).

If you have anymore questions I can try to get you the answers. Also if you go to some modelling/comic book stores they might have issues of radio-controlled car action magazine which is a great investment.

I'm thinking about getting back into the hobby...I want an HPI Nitro RS4...maybe a Tamiya vehicle depending on what they offer now. The polystyrene that they use looks way better than the lexan that most companies use, but the lexan is a lot more durable and the paint stays on longer since you paint the inside rather than the outside...

It all depends on what you want. If your looking for an extremely fast
tamiya car like their racing series chassis', your going to have to spend
sometimes over 500, for the best of everything. If you choose a low turn
motor like 10 or 11 turn, your going to need an ESC that can handle that
low of a turn motor, which will cost more then a regular ESC. But if you
dont want to go extremely fast and only want a basic car, you'll be able
to get a kit for about 100-150, it comes with a motor and mechanical
speed control, but I would upgrade to a better motor and ESC, so your
looking at about 300, including the radio also.

I know this is'nt the classified's, but Im trying to sell my Tamiya Loctite
1/10 R/c R33, which is extremely rare. You can't find this anywhere.

Serious buyers only please, as the price will not be cheap.

I guess the full outfit when I got mine was about $300 like they said above. But if you get a road going car, be prepared to start sinking money into it! It gets just like your real car, and you want it to go faster, handle better, be lighter, etc. $300 will get you started, but don't be surprised if that doubles within a month!

I got the Tamiya 350Z Racing version a couple of months ago. It costed me somewhere around $200 + $30 or so shipping (can't remember exactly) from HLJ, and it came with everything but a battery. I can't wait to start working on it, but I'm already working on about four other projects, including a Lego Technic car, and my first Gundam model (. Anyway, I'm glad I went ahead and bought it, since last time I checked HLJ, it was on backorder. I saw a Tamiya WRX model on Ebay a while ago for $70, so you might be want to check there for a good deal.

there is a R/C forum on this site: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...play.php?f=698 Tamiya 1/10 R/Cs are great fun for beginners, they are relatively cheap for the kits. As stated earlier, you can get a low turn motor and ESC for added speed, along with some gearing changes. Tamiya has the XB ready to run series which are just under $200 completely assembled with radio. I think all you will need is batteries. Not bad to start on, and upgrades are available for them too.

Gas cars are not cheaper in the long run! What are you smoking? Gas rides are high maintenence, extremely loud and have a way higher initial investment, not to mention the fact that David_ said he wanted an electric car. Nitros are way faster yes, but for beginner purposes, and the fact that he said he wants a Tamiya, electrics will do just fine. For demonstration purposes, I will compare two R/Cs, a Tamiya XB rtr and a HPI Nitro RS4 rtr. Both are 4wd, onroad, and 1/10th scale. A little comparison:

Nitro vs. Electric

Cost: HPI $279.99 Tamiya XB $169.99 (Mugen Integra for example)
Over $100 difference

First run: HPI fuel req, glow starter, time for engine tuning (remember he has never tuned a nitro before) batteries and an open area so not to bother any neighbors, hmmm, we'll say a conservative $50. LEt's not forget afterrun oil! That puts Mr. HPI at $319.99 for the first run.

Tamiya Mugen Integra, buy AAs for the transmitter ($6 for Duracells, my favorite) a 7.2 stick pack $20, and a peak charger $32, Tower hobbies. That the grand total for Mr. Tamiya $227.99 for the first run.

Of course, prices for stuff are highly arguementative, I just used the first google results to find the cars and towerhobbies.com for accessories. Like all things in life really, it comes down to preference. What do you prefer? Noisy nitro or easy electric?

I'm almost positive that Tamiya never made an RX-7. What are some other other cars you'd be interested in? They made a pretty range of cars in kit forms. If you really want a RX-7 shell though, HPI makes several popular import shells, to include the RX-7. Where are you located? That will help me find you someplace to buy from.
