starter motor

i need help with my ranger 1992 2.3l manual
when i start the engine the starter stayys on and when i shut off the engine it doenst shut off . the only way that i can shut off the car is to
disconect the battery , the terminal was hot , do i change the starter motor or the relay swicth ,or selenoid the haynes book is useless no pictures or details need help
