Is this a good price on a 98 540i?
I just came back from the dealership and they had a 1998 540i 6speed with Dinan Stage 2 (thats what they told me) and it also had the Dinan 5 badge on the trunk (I dont think it matters). They were asking $34k for it with 44000 Miles. It was silver with gray leather.
My Question is that is that a good price? What things I need to be aware of when I am purchasing a 540? Thanks in Advance!

No it is not a great price. I bought my 2000 fully loaded with navigation for $35,000 with the same miles. Go to BMWUSA.com and search their certified pre owned(100,000 mile warranty) In regards to the Dinan badge. Dinan makes good mods, but I drive my 540 like it is a Race Car and have only a few small problems.
The clutch and it might just be my clutch cannot hold the power and seems to stick. The rearend does not have positraction when the traction control is turned off. Which means that you can only leave one tire mark when you burn out. They car needs some aftermarket stiffining braces in order to do great donuts! Other than these few things the car is incredible and I do not regret buying it at all. |

Re: Is this a good price on a 98 540i?
Don't buy 1998 540. VANOS came out in 1999 models, which give much low end torque. Also if it has Dinan mods, someone has already driven it too hard. Anyway I got a pristine 2000 540 Wagon with 34K miles for $27K from a broker. Zenon lights, rain sensor wipers, heated seats/wheel, premium everything.....deals can be found....shop carefully
