Right now im still in the process of workin on the body kit, i am almost finished with the front. My friend ShOrtyOC714 thought of making a Roll Cage, so we did, took us about 2 hours or so... cuz we kept doing other stuff at the same time, it came out pretty well. Thanx to ShOrtyOC714 for all the help.

Looks ok, but the roll cage is too thick, and well, the bars don't really look too straight. May I suggest buying some brass rods, and bending/soldering them? IMO it would look more realistic.

The roll cage isnt really big it just seems like it is in the pics, but in real life they look perfect, also the bars are straight its just the angels i took them at, also i messed up on 1 of the bars and thats about it.

Re: MR2 Progress Thread (pics inside)!!
One of the bars is crooked because it started melting while we tried to melt the bars together, some other ones got warped because of the heat also, that's why some arent straight. Im thinking of constructing a bonnet hood for me, does anyone know how to do this?

if you can try to buy some styren tubing for the rollcage then glue it together rather than melt it, then you wont have to deal with warping, plus if you put the glue on the ends of the tubing it will give it a welded effect

We superglued them first, but it still had edges, so we decided to melt it to give it a real weld affect, just some parts caught on fire because of the super glue.

The trick with styrene is to apply tube glue for platic on one end of the tube, wait for about 30 seconds, press the tube to the other piece that you want it to attach to, hold firmly for a few seconds, then gently begin to pry away the tube and you will reveal access glue have "melted" both pieces slightly. Now press it firmly back on to the same piece and hold. You should see small beads of melted plastic and glue being pressed out from under the tube end. When dried and painted, these beads give a distinct impression of weld beads.
Word of caution. Never attempt to melp the plastic pieces using direct flame. Not only will you not be able to chieve the correct result, but you may damage the parts irreversably and damage surrounding parts as well. |
