car sputter and stutters, sometimes won't accelerate, and dies!

....here's my problem right now i just got the car and it ran really good for 1 day! now the thing is all messed up, it is a '96 EX 2dr automatic and when i accelerate sometimes the RPM's will jump up then straight down to zero....sometimes if i keep giving it gas it will want to accelerate and othertimes it will just be dead and i have to put it in neutral and restart it! even when i rev it in "park" it will stutter and act like it won't get past a certain rpm...what the heck could my problem be? keep in mind it doesn't do it all the time....i need to get this thing fixed asap cause i'm supposed to drive it down to FL in 2wks!

Tech help aside, you need to take that bitch back to wherever/whoever you bought it from and get it fixed for free, or get your money back. There are lemon laws and having a car screw up after one friggin day just isn't right.

uh yeah take it back to him/her and ask for your money back.

A stuttering engine could mean a dozen things from you're out of gas, a clogged fuel filter, to fried piston rings or a blown head gasket... Did you drive hard or do something to make it fuck up?

only advice is try changing your spark plugs again, maybe you bought the incorrect ones. Also check your distributor by taking off those 4 screws, and look at the little rotor thing in there to see if it's maybe rusted or something. These parts are cheap relative to taking it to a dealer.

ya, i never changed the plugs...i didn't change anything i just got the car and it started acting up! i will start changing stuff i guess cause i hate to take it into the dealer and get bent over! the distributor only has 3 screws and not 4 correct?

3 or 4 philips screws... don't remember, but you get the point. And yes, dealers do rape you.

It's more than likely an electrical problem. Mechanical problems aren't intermittent, most of the time. Check your grounding wires, I would change spark plug wires and the rotor cap. You might consider investing in a service manual if you like to do it yourself. They usually have troubleshooting trees that help diagnose problems like you have.
