1999 Cobra upgrade questions

I just purchased a 99 Cobra and saw that there was a recall on the car:
TSB Number Issue Date TSB Title
99B27 DEC 99 Campaign - Engine Performance Upgrade

found at: http://www.alldata.com/TSB/19/991947DL.html

"In 1999, Ford recalled 5,300 1999 SVT Mustang Cobras after admitting the vehicle's engine did not produce its advertised 320 horsepower. The recall came after Mustang Cobra owners complained of a shortfall of as much as 50 horsepower. Ford traced the power problem to the engine's cast aluminum intake manifold and its exhaust system."

I was wondering if this has been done to my car. I took it to my local Ford dealer and they said that there was no way to tell if this upgrade was done to the car. I have asked them to look at the recall and then look under the hood, but they said that there would still be no way to tell because the parts are almost the same. If you guys have any suggestions on how I can tell if the upgrades were done it would help me out a lot. The car doesn't seem to have the horse power that it should. Though it has 76,000 miles on it, I would still expect more from the car. Any input would be great.

Brian

The recall work would have been done by a Ford Dealer and there would be a sticker on the door saying recall# la dad da da. The Ford Dealer you went to knows this, also Ford keeps track of this nationally by the VIN so they can check if it's been done or not sounds like you went to a dickhead Ford Dealer either fight with them or goto another 1. They can tell!!!!

Re: 1999 Cobra upgrade questions

The vin is logged and Ford definitely keeps track of all recalls. I had a hood recall on my 1994 GT, and I never got it fixed, but got a letter in the mail every year from Ford offering to fix it. Trust me, they know who has done it.
