Tamiya history : 1/12, 1/20 and ... 1/18 !!

I am currently working at a historic overview of all Tamiya kits in scales 1/12, 1/20 and 1/18.

1/12 is finished and can be looked at here.

1/20 is finished and can be looked at here.

The trouble is the 1/18 kits though. My eldest tamiya source is a 1975 catalogue where I find the following kits :

CS-1807 : Volkswagen Buggy
CS-1808 : Porsche Carrera-10
CS-1809 : Nissan R381
CS-1810 : McLaren M8A
CS-1811 : Lola T-160TS

I'm pretty sure that the Lola was the last of all 1/18 kits, but I am also pretty sure that there must have been kits before the Buggy. I presume that there must have been 6 before the number CS-1807, namely the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6...

A few days ago I was lucky enough to win an auction at ebay, giving me the opportunity to buy this kit :

This is kit number 5 in the 1/18 range, so that proves that there must have been the numbers CS-1801 up to CS-1806...

Is there anyone outhere who can help me complete my list? I would be very grateful...

Thanks in advance!

Straith from the 1975 Tamiya catalogue, my friend

But it looks indeed as if numbers CS-1808 through CS-1811 are re-issues from the same kits wearing numbers CS-1801 through CS-1804. The only kit that I didn't know of is the CS-1806, Honda N III 360.

To me it seems that the complete list in 1/18 should look like this then :

CS-1801 : Porsche Carrera-10
CS-1802 : Nissan R381
CS-1803 : McLaren M8A
CS-1804 : Lola T-160TS
CS-1805 : Subaru R2SS
CS-1806 : Honda N III 360
CS-1807 : Volkswagen Buggy
CS-1808 : Porsche Carrera-10 (re-issue)
CS-1809 : Nissan R381 (re-issue)
CS-1810 : McLaren M8A (re-issue)
CS-1811 : Lola T-160TS (re-issue)

Very busy with my new work, which leaves little time to continue my Ford Focus
And since I had little progress in my modeling work, I didn't really have a lot of news to tell inhere

BTW the making of the 2 Tamiya lists also took a great deal of time, so...

Can't help you so much with your listing but it's very informative.

I didn't know that Tamiya had done a 1/18 VW Buggy. I'll have to search in trades for this one.

Thanks for the infos.
