Stripped Bolt on Valve Cover

Well I was taking off my valve cover today and got every bolt off except one....I cant get it to come off... I tightening it down and couldnt get it to tighten down at all and couldnt unscrew it either. What's the best way to get it off?

There is this socket that is made to clamp around the stripped bolt and be able to untighten it. Haven't had to get one yet but seen it in a mac tools mag. Maybe you can also use an easy out. That might work.

Re: Re: Stripped Bolt on Valve Cover

Ok I got it off by having a friend wedge a screw driver under neath it and I used a socket to get it off.

It turns out that its not the bolt thats stripped but its the post that is. Anyone know where I can get a new post? I dont know the technical name but I think that that describes it pretty well.

Itd be alot of work for a single bolt, but you could goto a junkyard and take the head bolts off of another car, (with your engine). Id probably do that, and take a few while I'm at it. Becuase Im not sure if you can buy a single bolt anywhere, and I know that aftermarket ones arent cheap, so maybe you can ask the dealer? Im pretty sure your gonna have to take off the head for a fix it job like that too. I mean thats the only way I've ever heard of being able to do it.
Better invest in a torque wrench if you dont have one.

Yeah I'll go out to a junkyard in a few days and look and also go buy a torque wrench.

Do you have any suggestions on what kind of torque wrench to get?

They're all about the same dude. That's like asking what type of screwdriver to buy...
