Looking for smoothest ride possible
What can I do to my 01 Pathfinder to give the smoothest ride possible? It only has 34k miles and will never be taken off road. Now the ride is so rough, I can't even rest my head on the headrest without having my head beaten about.
Thanks, |

Check your air pressure, the Pathfinders suspension can feel much rougher just from air pressure. I think on my pathy driver's door jamp it recommends air pressure at 26lbs. I keep mine at around 30-32 for the increased gas mileage but it sure makes it stiffen up. The AirLift air bags kind of hurt as well.

You could also look for gas charged shocks. They would stay relatively soft riding on the small stuff, but stiffen up for those situations with more suspension travel.

Re: Looking for smoothest ride possible
What do you think about Monroe Sensa-Tracs? I've heard people speak kindly of them and the price is right. I may do the backs this weekend since they look fairly easy to do. The fronts are another story! The problem is I can't tell if my problem is in the front or back? The "thud" through the steering wheel from the front is more annoying to me than the bounce from the rear. Last night I crawled under and did see evidence of the rear bottoming out, clean rubbings on the rubber stops.
I also made shure all tires had 28 pounds of air, didn't seem to make a difference? Quote:
