Idmax

What are your thoughts of the IDMAXs? I'm thinking about getting 1 IDMAX 12 D3 V2. I'll only be pushing 600 watts to it via a PPI A1200.2 (Old School PPI).

for subwoofers, they are efficient. 600 watts should be plenty to push those drivers to full excursion providing u have the right box size.

The IDMAX sounds awesome. Its the perfect blend of SQ and SPL (in my opinion) I'll have mine in a few days, I'll give you a better respnse then.

I got then MAX in yesterday. It has to be broken in for about week(can't see full amp power). So far it is crystal clear and very tight. Nice response and it seems to be very efficient. I would highly reccommend this sub to anyone.

Re: Idmax

I've heard very good things about the IDMAX, I really want to hear one in person to see how it compares to my sub

Re: Re: Idmax

the only thing the idmax has on the E12A is inductance and box versitility.

the mucho pequeno 2" diameter, 2.8" long, 2-layer coil should have low-inductance. i would be afraid to put 1000 watts on that sub even though ID rated it at 1kw.

it'll work in sealed, ported, bandpass, and infinite baffle setup which is nice. lol.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Idmax

infinity baffle = no box
basically like mounting them in the rear deck like the rear speakers in most cars

A friend of mine had his in a 2.85 cubic foot, ported box. It saw 1200 watts everyday. Never blew, never even shuttered. Hit 145s all day long.

1)music is dynamic
2)car voltage will always vary

music is never constant. the waveforms are like peaks and valleys. u don't get the amp's rated RMS Power unless u have stable voltage and you're playing 20hz test tone or so.

if its for burps then its nothing really since it doesn't burping only last a few seconds. if the idmax had 1200 watts continuously for an hour or so, it probably would have a hard time converting electrical watts to acoustic watts. power compression comes in and then eventually the coil will fry.

EDIT-a 145db to me is only true if its measured with a B&K mic. yea i'm picky like that. lol

It wasn't in burps, it was constant playing...sometimes for an hour or so. Never fried the coil. I understand what you're saying, but this is what I witnessed. Oh yeah, we were using an Audiocontrol RTA.

then its music i assume. the most the amp will send the sub is 1200 watts but thats only a peaks. at the valley, it can drop down as low as 100 watts or so, depend on music. no reason for the sub to fry on 1200 music. but i guess i should have stated 1000 watts continuously instead to clear up any misunderstanding.

audiocontrol rta. wee! lol 150db on an AC is about 135 or so on a B&K. talk about trying to hit high numbers. lol
