problem ... wont start

im not happy... ive got a 93 ranger single cab. and today i didnt drive it at all, my mom took it to work so i get home and i go to leave (in my truck) and i get it and i put in the key, press in the clutch and turn the key... nothing. all that happens is i hear a deep click noise and it sounds like its comin from the master cylinder, this has happened before and it was fixed by a freind of mine... he ended up taking a short from the wires through himself. dont know if that made sense but it worked... so i dont know whether or not its a short or a fuse or what but if any one has any info on what could be wrong i would appreciate it ALOT
