stereo security code

Greetings Gurus,

I replaced the battery in my daughter's '95 Civic and now the stereo won't play until I enter the security code. I don't know what the code is and the Honda dealer here in Sacramento wants to charge me $80 to tell me what the code is. Is there a way I can get the code myself? Can I supply the VIN somewhere and get the code? Thanks.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. strange. i went to get my security code twice from honda and once from acura. all three times was free.

How do they get the code? Did you have to take the car to them to prove that it was your car? (we can do that) Or, can it be done over the phone?
