blowing amp channels

i read about this guy who was blowing out all of his amp channels, and i wanted to know if operating the amps at thier maximum power output would blow out the channels.

if it helps im planning on hooking one 1000 watt 2-channel amp up to 2 500 watt rms subs. and running 500 watts, which is the amps max output, to each subwoofer. if this sounds like trouble to anyone or if anyone has any tips please post them.

Depends on the type of amp

its a legacy 1000 watt 2 channel amp. and the 2 channels max out at 500

how long have you had it and what are you pushing speaker wise?

i have two 500 watt rms legacy subs, they were pretty cheap and i haven't had them very long

i'd check the fuses first, if not that, undo the screws and see if the sub is screwed up, they can't handle squat of any power

all amps run at max power all the time (as long as they're on)

cause turning up the headunit sends more power to the speakers/subs and therefore they tell you how much it can constantly push versus how much it can spike at if you are lucky

Im sorry I worded that wrong, amps always push at their full output all the time which averages out to the rated rms power. The "max power" or "peak power" is nothing more than a way for advertisers to say it puts out more power. In reality that's just where the power spikes like haibane said. When looking at amps, don't look at the peak power, it's useless. The actual power that the amp puts out is the rms power.

in that case if i wire a 500 watt rms amp to one of my subs will it hit alot harder.

if u have any suggestions, please give me a link to a good amp.

and if so how can i tell if the amp is goin on rms or max.

if i figure right it would make sense just to match the max of the amp with the max of the sub, and then the both rms ratings should line up.

if that is not the case then please tell me otherwise
