I dono how old this thread is..are you still working on the model? I am working on the same model right now and it's my first as well
 I'm having almost the exact same problems as you (the chrome trim/badges, haven't had time to go to the city to look for BMF because I just found out what it is  ) I'm going with red w/ the white stripes on mine with black/tan interior. Good luck with yours!
