Revell 1969 Camaro Z-28 Underway! (My first model!!)
Just wanted to start a thread about my very first foray into modeling!
After reading this forum for a few weeks, I felt I was ready at last to begin. Here's the rundown so far: The kit is a Revell 1969 Camaro Z-28 with the RS option. I am building it as a Z-28. It's molded in white plastic, the parking lamps are clear (I've painted them with Turn Signal Amber, on the inside, thanks Guiddy) and the taillights are red plastic. I sanded the body and hood, and blasted it with some Krylon sandable primer. Let that sit and then started painting up th little bits on the trees. The first piece I painted was the front axle/suspension, I mistakenly removed it from the tree to paint it. Got one side painted and then realized that it would have been better to leave it on the tree! So that's what I did for the rest. And what a blast I had painting! I used a small brush (kinda shaped like a triangle, let me get away with some good details) and of course toothpicks for those hard to reach areas like door handles and window cranks. I used those little glass Testors bottles for all the interior painting, 'cept for the interior itself which I blasted with Flat Black spraypaint. The engine came out particularly nice, bright red headers and water pump, contrasting with aluminum / gray colored block. The chrome valve covers are going to look soooo nice on top of that! The radiator hoses look sweet, too. Black with little dabs of silver on the ends (hose clamps of course) I started getting creative, and even put a little dab of red on the positive battery terminal The body, I haven't decided on a color, I'm thinking red or blue here. The interior is going to be black. I'm thinking of doing another round of primer, but I may just start giving it some light coats of color. Then sand, more color, etc and finally clearcoats. Sorry, I have no pics, no digi camera ![]() But I will try and use words instead. I have been taking piccies with my trusty dusty SLR and will scan them when I get them back. Now, on to phase 2: THE GLUE! MACKA PS Special Thanks to you all, reading this forum has been VERY helpful. This is my first model, and I bought it as a "practice" kit, but I gotta tell ya I'm having a blast and giving it lots 'o love

Good to hear. Hopefully you'll be posting up pics of the progress with your model.
Side note: You're also going to be up to your neck like the rest of us. Once you start, you can't stop.

Yeah, feel free to rack our brains too, it's what we are here for!
Keep your eyes open for a digi cam too, it really livens up threads about building models! Do you have a friend's you can borrow! We all love to see pics! |

Thanks for the words of encouragement!!!
Pics will be coming, but not until I get 'em back and get 'em scanned... One question, there are some pretty small details on the body of this car, such as the "Camaro" badging on the quarter panels and trunk...I think they may be too small for the ol' dab-of-silver-on-a-toothpick-trick. What do you guys think. There aren't any decals for these and no plated pieces, but they're supposed to be chrome badges. I'm afraid that if I try to dab some silver paint on there it's going to screw the paint on the body!!!! Gah, I need a digital camera ![]() More updates to come... Macka |

If the badge un-resessed (sticking out?) you could paint it silver or chrome before you paint the body then very lightly sand it until the silver shows through.

Good idea. I think that's what I'm going to do...THANKS!
edit: BTW where do you obtain Bare Metal Foil? My local shops don't have it. Is there a website? (It's for the window edges) Also, I picked up some aluminum tubing for making custom exhaust pipes (not on this model though) My question is, what is a clean way of cutting these without squishing the tube (they're very soft) and wrecking the perfect circle on the end? Thanks again, Macka |

Buy yourself a small saw that Railway Modellers use to cut there tracks. It has very fine teeth and is excellent on plastic and metal
