Hello to all,

Let me echo Andy's sentiments that we're glad to get such a positive reception! We weren't sure how we would be received by this group, but it's nice to be a part of things.

We'll be checking in regularly to see how things are going, and to get answers to important questions (like where I can find some of the old MPC and AMT Vega kits to replicate my beloved '76 Kammback!).

Scale Auto has undergone a number of changes recently, but we believe that's all behind us now and we're on the upswing again. And we're going to relaunch our Web site this fall -- not as a competitor to sites like this but as a companion or complementary site. Andy will be our main Web guy, and it's going to be a big upgrade compared to the old site. Probably have plenty of tuner stuff too, since Andy is "Mr. Tuner" around here.

Again, thanks for having us.

I was subscriber to AF before but I didn't continue because there was mostly US cars in magazine and for rest of us who like 'importers' much less articles.
I felt the same way, too. Common excuse is that majority of readers are American, and they love domestic subject, so instead of actively introducing different subjects, it repeats the same theme over and over.

Anyway, SA Mag editors,
Welcome to AF Car Modeling Forum.

You'll be surprised how many young modelers are participating in this
forum; something that hasn't been seen in the modeling community for a
while.

I hope SA Mag will keep up with the current trend, and inspire
new modelers, and I'm sure this forum will be a great source of
information.

Since web forums are just as important as the traditional printed
magazines, let me propose some kind of collaboration between SA Mag and AF in the future.

How does it sound like, guys?

Scale Auto is here!
Although I`ve been getting this magazine since 1994, I must admit I usually go straight to the pictures now.

Welcome, Andy! 3 megapixel sounds a bit broad, considering camera makers probably fudge their megapixel rating to sound better than the other guys' cameras. What do you think the minimum picture size should be for print? My camera does 1600x1200 uncompressed TIFF images at its highest setting, is that enough?

Yeah, I thought the same. 3 meg digital camera can still take a low res picture with high compression (i.e. poor quality) depending on the setting.

For digital data, you probably want to specify the minimum resolution such as 100, 200 or 300 pixel / inch.

My 1.3 meg camera can take 1240x1024 uncompressed, which translates to a little bigger than 4 x 3 inch photo at 300 dpi.

Also, you definitely don't want jpeg, but use lossless format such as TIFF, BMP, PNG, or Photoshop native file.

Regarding the photo questions – FineScale Modeler, our sister publication, has the same digital photo guidelines as we do. Take a look here for those.

Just some notes (as passed down from our Art Director):

-Just because you have the right size photos doesn't mean they'll be usable. The model has to be up to par, the photos have to be in focus and well lit, and then you'll have to have the right size and quality digital photos.

-Always set your camera to the highest settings possible (highest resolution)

-Whenever possible, we want raw images. Tiffs or other raw uncompressed images are primo.

-Do NOT do any photoshop work to yoru digital images. When you say you have an "altered" dragster, that should'nt mean that the model was altered in photoshop (does anyone get that joke?) We want raw, untouched digital images; no photochops.

-Did I mention we wanted raw digital images?

Hope this helps.
