Insurance on a souped-up Supra

Will your insurance go up the more you soup-up a Supra (or any car for that matter)? I know a lot of performance parts will not affect your insurance, and you are not even required to let your insurance company know about them. However, what modifications will affect your insurance?

It all depends on the insurance company, Im getting a MKIV TT Supra and the insurance is $520 a month (Im 15 so thats why its through the roof), and if somebody were to total the car insurance would only replace the car or the value before the car was modified without any of the aftermarket parts. But there are other insurance policies you might want to consider like show car, collectors car, etc.

Insurance for a bone stock TT is a killer. I am 20 and unfortunetly live in NJ. Got quoted @ $5500 for full coverage for the year. Funny because for a 2000 C5 vette the insurance is only $4600. What gives??

The bad thing about a supra is that if you have a shit load of work done to the car and something happens you get Bluebook for the car which is very low compared to the prices that the market is selling. So your pretty much screwed unless you save your recipts for the parts and work ect........

A 16 year old driver with a TT supra, that's exactly what we need on the road

No, insurance will not go up if you mod your car and don't get the parts covered by insurance. You can have insurance cover the mods you have done to your car, but if you give em a list of 10 grand in performance stuff they automatically assume you're a super high risk street racer, so expect to end up paying more money to insurance than it would cost to replace the parts yourself. Not to mention how much your premiums would go up if your car were ever in an accident.

If you get your insurance through progressive you get 1000 dollar coverage automatically on mods for your car (if you have collision and theft covered) and you can make them up to I think 4000 dollars maximum.

Yes rates are higher and if you get into an accident then they will be even more. So really you can either save some of your money each month and be a good driver, spending less money for insurance and saving in case you ever need to replace parts that break (from accidents or otherwise).
