I've not heard of any problems specific to the 99s. There are only a few dozen in the country so getting one is something unique. They're suseptable to the same things that all the second generation vehicles are. The transmission sometimes (about 1/3 of the time) craps out after 70K miles. There is a transfer case recall going on so you'll want to get that done.

I had to have the transmission fixed on my 95. The 94 still shifts as smooth as the day I got it. Pretty much any year is about the same as the other (aside from some facia changes and the dropping of AWS in 96)

so by the dropping of AWS in 96, do u mean that 97 and up do NOT have AWS??? or do u mean that just the 96's dont have AWS??? and also didnt they drop the active aero after 96? and lastly, do u have a better number of how many of those LTD 99 VR4's are stateside ? because i also would LOVE to get my hands on one of those!!!!! i am in love with the 99 VR4s, and have been drooling over all the ones i find online! lol if only i could find one in my price range! everyone is shisty with em and wants like 12 g's over their value!!!

dam!! only 45!! that certainly makes things harder for us wanting one! but that doesnt include imported ones does it? like ones that people had imported themselves. would they be tagged GTO's tho? and does anyone know would they have all the special lil things that the 99 VR4s had if they were imported?(ie, the rear wing?)

There are actually around 247 that were in production, not 45. If you ask me, there were more. You can find a new one on www.autotrader.com every week.
EDIT: Right now there are 6 99 VR4's on Autotrader and 6 99 VR4's on www.cars.com. Sorry, just wanted to prove my point about there not being only 45 99 VR4's.
