3000GT Speedometer Question (need answers soon)
I have a 1994 3000GT SL, and the speedometer/odometer assembly recently quit working. As such, I have not been able to drive my car, and I would like this problem to be fixed since I am going off to college in a few days.
The problems began in april, when my speedometer needle would occasionally fall downward but shoot back up to the proper speed. sometimes it would do this quickly several times, and most of the time it would be fine. Then, several months later, it would fall to zero and quit working, and i would have to knock on it with my knuckles or press on it firmly to get it to jump back up to the proper speed. Now, most recently, it has fallen to zero and won't work. This has caused me to stop driving my car. I plan on taking it to college, but I will leave it behind if the speedometer assembly doesn't work, as it won't register miles.
You should probably know that I took the instrument gauge assembly out to remove and paint the separate plastic piece around the gauges, although it worked fine until april. I think the problem is that the speedometer/odometer assembly is not making good contact, and I have removed it and sprayed all the connections liberally with electrical contact cleaner, but to no avail.
Can someone please help me? Whether I take my car with me to college or not rests on if I can get this problem fixed.
Thanks!
