Lockup Converter Disable
My 95 Regal w/ 3.8 has a shudder when the converter goes to lockup. Car has about 135,000 on it. Is there a way to disable the lockup and get a few more years out of the car? I only found one plug going into the trans and when it is disconnected the car won't move and it throws a check engine light. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. That 3.8 engine is just about indestructable, if taken care of. The engine is great, the transmission isn't. The 4T65-E(I think thats what youve got) isn't the best of trannys, when abused. I'm not sure what sort of past your car has had before you owned it, and trannys arent my specialty.

I'm 99% sure it's the trans. As soon as it tries to lockup it shudders. If I tap the brake or gas it will stop. I read in the book that the TCC is inside the pan ( Just changed to synthetic 2 times in the last month). Can I just go in and unplug or remove it? Will it always show a check engine? Thanks.

The torque converter isnt going to come out that easily. Ut is in the tranny bell housing, next to the engine. you'll probably have to have it done professionally.

I was talking about the Torque Converter Selenoid. Would there be any harm in disconnecting it? My book says that you have to remove the pan and unbolt the selenoid and then disconnect the electric plug. I'm thinking with it disconnected it wouldn't try to lockup and then not shudder. Any thoughts?
