Thumbs up Battery life

On the average a battery will last about five years, most batteries are refurbished and resold though so spend the extra few dollars when buying another. Jump-starting can cause problems to a vehicles computer so try not to. I'm glad to hear that you have gotten 7+ years out of a factory battery. It's lasted probably because of the non-jumping.

5 years average, totally agree. Recently had someone tell me their battery was 8 years old and was complaining, Geez!! HAHA. 7 years is awesome.

Re: How long should a Battery last in years?

Battery life is inversely proportional to it's operating temperature. The hotter thy are, the shorter they last. Motorcraft batteries (and the GOOD DieHards) are made by Johnson Controls, and they are GOOD. Far, far better than most other brands so 7 years is not really uncommon. But I would expect it to quit soon. Or '93 Crown Vic's battery made it 7 years, my dad's Expy battery is 6 years old. Mileage does not really affect them, but if tha alternator over/under charges then you can have ealy trouble with the battery as well.
