atf in a 5 speed
im working on my car and drained the tranny, it has atf in it. is that normal??

Could be...consult your owner's manual or a Haynes manual or something. I had an '88 Ranger with the Mazda manual gearbox (a true P.O.S.!) and it was lubed by ATF, if I recall correctly. And I was as surprised as you are.
![]() edited to add: The tranny was a P.O.S., not the truck. That Ranger held up to over 150,000 miles of some of the most unreasonable punishment I could dish out! I'd recommend the Ranger to anyone who was inclined to buy one. |

Yes. The later manual transmission used ATF. Since your info says you have a 1988 Mustang, you probably have a T-5 manual, which would use the ATF. I would recommend refilling it with fully synthetic.

Yes they use ATF all the time in T-5's. I use GM Synchromesh when refilling.
