Exhaust Question

Well since I finally got some money, I decided to buy some stuff for my 99 Si. I ordered an Apexi N1 universal muffler, and I think Im gonna get a shop to install it.

The inlet tip is 2.5", and my stock piping is thinner than that (dunno the exact number). Will they be able to weld on the muffler to the stock piping, maybe with some adapter or something?

How much do you think they would charge for this?

Another option I am thinking about is getting some 2.5" piping welded on up to the cat in addition to the N1 muffler. How much would they charge for that?

I'm not looking for much real performance here, I just want a better tone and better looking muffler than my stock exhaust. If you guys have any suggestions on what I should do and how much it would cost please share.

u don't want 2.5" piping. its pointless (unless ur vic has FI). if u get piping welded on, get 2 1/4 TOPS, an u should be fine. ask for a resegnator as well (will keep it from sounding like ish, an being TOO loud)...

that would be the best set-up for not too much money.

Alright thanks for the help guys.

How much do you think each option would cost to get done, either just the muffler welded on or the piping welded on as well?

A local shop here charged my friend $200 to bend 2.25 pipe and weld it together and install a resonator and the muffler. It was a good deal IMO b/c that includeed the price for the resonator and the pipe which was SS and mandrel bent.

will your car still sound loud with 2 1/4 pipings? And will u lose performance if u get bigger pipings such as 2.5? I also bought the Apexi N1 Universal Muffler n' getting it installed by a shop on monday.

Unless your civic is FI, don't go with 2.5" piping, go 2.25" max. You'll loose too much presure with 2.5" piping if your civic is not FI, which results in loss of HP and Torque. To put on just the muffler, I'd guess $60-$100, depending on the amount to work needed to adapt it. I know of it costing $60 and $80 on 2 occasions to put a tip on that was 2.25" onto a civic. As for a Custom Cat-Back system with resonator? Definatly get a resonator, it is worth it. It will help the tone and keep the car quiter. Anyways, It costed me about $190 for 2 1/4 inch piping and a resonator, plus the muffler installed (plus cost of buying the muffler). It might be alittle less if you want 2 inch piping, but as for bang for the buck, thats how I'd go, a custom cat-back 2 1/4 inch system with resonator, should cost around $200. It'll help the engine breath better too, and if you swap in a b-series later, you've got the exhaust taken care of on that account too.
