unorthodox underdrive pulley
this will probably be my last mod for some time. i just found out that my timing belts, power steering belt, etc have never been replaced and need to do so. the first though that comes to my mind... time for an upgrade! this will complete my n/a modding up to stage 3.
last thing i could really do before injectors and nos (which i will never do). maybe injectors if i get a dealhttp://www.courtesyparts.com/ur/240SX.html my question is, is it worth it? i heard it can dramatically increase power because it relieves stress of turning the belts. also, on courtesy's web site, it says i need smaller belts. where would i get those???? thanks all mark

has anyone done this??
maybe not... i know it's not a common mod, but definately a popular one with people tuning their engines. i will have to do this soon... i can't take hard right turns my power steering belt is very loose.

upgrading your flywheel and pullies is one of the most effective mod you will ever do to your car. And you can get EVEN more power once turboed!!! Its just kinda expensive... Dayna did it im sure she can give you some pointers Mark. The belts can be picked up at any auto parts store. I think the pullies should have a booklet showing what lengths you will need. Should be an ez mod to do if you can get over the price tag!!

thanks sanchi!
can i do this myself? the auto store wants $200 for all the belts and installation (just belts, no pulley upgrade mentioned). that seems a little high.

you need to change the belt sizes to something smaller. you will definitly feel the difference. but there is one thing that i'm not too thrilled about. on hot days, i run alittle hot in traffic cause i am now underdriving my water pump so it spins slower so i get less coolant flow. 2, i am also underdriving my a/c compressor so on idle my a/c is not as cold. other if you can deal with those. then get the pulley. you can definitly feel them work. and you get better gas mileage too. it took me and my friend 3 hours to put it in. here are a few tricks
1: to remove the pulley, put a breaker bar on the pulley bolt and put it against the ground. then hit the ignition once and the bolt should come loose 2: to put the bolt back on, you need to have someone get in the car, put the car in gear, then stop on the brake. this way it looks the crank. now you can tighten the sucker.

for best results, your best bet is to go with the belts they recommend on their page. may cost a bit more but you'll know they are the right size and good quality, maybe that just me but I like to do things right the first time

you are reducing the weigh to the rotating assembly. this way it helps spool up for the turbo. remember every mod that you gain power on a n/a application expect that same mod to give you atleast double the power on a turbo. like how a spark plug or wires or a ignition coil really wouldn't give you power on a n/a application. but on a turbo you can see some power gains. for example. they changed the spark plug on a rx-7 twin turbo with some crazy performance ones and it gained 29hp at the wheels!! another example is that unorthdox racing put a set of pulleys on a 300ZX twin turbo and it gained 35 hp at the wheels!! unreal man. turbo does wonders.

Dude, NOS isnt a bad thing, its just 2F2F and F&F have sullied the name
I think on an N/A KA, NOS must be a wise upgrade I know of someone who has the most bad-ass "JDM" 300ZX, and had a 35 shot. Hell, even McKinney uses NOS

Another alternative is ASP pulleys. They are almost identical, only cheaper than the Unorthodox.

i dont trust asp, and i think they are slighlty heavier than ur.
trust me i thought about nos, i even bought a kit. but i already have about 170hp, with the pulley it woulg go to about 175-180. no way i can add nos, there isnt a small enough kit. at least i think. do they have a 35 shot? those kits are usually made for stock engines.... and mine is def not stock

whats wrong with ASP. ASP have been makin pulleys for a very long time. they started off making pulleys for V8's. and they moved to I4's.
