How do coilovers work?

Can someone pls clarify to me how coilovers work? I know you can adjust the height of the ride but can you make it so the front end is lower than the back end, I mean can you adjust the front separate from the back or do you have to have all 4 coilovers at same height. Thx for any help. Sorry if this is such a newbish question.

I have another question about coilovers if someone doesn't mind answering. Like springs, would coilovers need a camber kit?

depends on how low you go!
anything over 2 inches, and i would consider having camber corrected
