BMW 320i Jagermeister GR.5 "Aubrey" Progress

Happy Mother's Day. Here's some progress on my BMW 320i aka "Aubrey".

Tamiya makes a nice model. This 320i is my first Tamiya build. The parts are very clean and the fit is tight.

I did a black wash on the wheels, I think they came out nice. I used Rust-oleum 'Real Orange' Paint. To me it looks exactly like the colour Jagermeister uses. The coloring scheme called for gun-metal on some of the engine parts, my colour is way off. I painted that colour before I found a reference photos on the net. It's more a black-copperish colour irl. I'm thinking about changing it, even though my gun-metal blue is more bmwish. The exhaust pipes call for flat white but the reference photo they're also that black-copperish colour.

Yeah, I think I'm going to redo the engine to look more like the reference photos. What do you think?

1:1 Engine and Body reference.

aaaah I can't wait to see the progress on this car. I have the ford capri that I will "eventually build".

It looks great, and I am sure it would be perfect. The engine looks great. Is that a mold line I see next to the carburator?

If you have ref. pics of the engine you should repaint it to match them, or you'll never be satisfied of it.
Wheels and paint look allright to me.

Looks good so far. Try Testor's Jet Exhaust for that color you described for the exhaust. Than add a few spots of clear orange an blue for very reallistic exhaust on almost all racecars. Another good orange that's easy to find in the USA anyway is Krylon Pumpkin Orange.

I like this kit a lot. Do a good job please..ahahah looks great! As far as the exhuast goes it depends if the reference photo was taken while new or after use.

Thank you. Yes, that 'was' a mold line. Was, like in past tense. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Thanks Alex, I pulled the engine and I'm going to do it up like in the reference photos...You're right, I'll never be happy if I don't.

Thanks 935k3, I'll pick some up at the hobby shoppe tomorrow. I want to go real on this build. Krylon is a great paint, my next Jagermeister or lowrider build I'll try a can.

Thanks BRM, I want to do a good job on this build. Thanks to y'all here, I'm going to.

I may even do some wires and plumbing on the engine. I also wouldn't mind a more realistic cockpit. Anyone know where I can find seatbelts that would do this build justice?

Again, Thanks to all that replied to this thread.

That orange looks great. Who knew? And good idea goin' for reference photos, tht'll make you happier. Tamiya is for some reason pretty spotty about paint call outs, I think it has something to do with the cars they use as reference. I'd suggest going ahead and doing some wires, even if not a many, they liven up the engine bay a lot, you'd be surprised how little engine detail goes as far as it does. This is a great model, I can't wait to see what you can do with it.

Gotta love Jagermeister Orange Will be looking forward to seeing this progress, should be killer!
Like everybody else I agree you are wise to stick as closely to your references as possible, you'll only regret it later if you fudge things.

Re: BMW 320i Jagermeister GR.5 "Aubry" Progress

repainted and new parts

1:1 Reference

I cut up some small plastic to fit into those 4 black 'carbs' on the Left. Then I gutted a peice of wire and added the black tube thing in the middle. I also made gas lines into each of the carbs. Finally I made out of wire and cloth and wood the silver wiring harness that is shown in the 1:1.

I think it's looking more and more real. Thanks to you all at AF for the help and positive words.

Great call Willimo. I took your advice and handmade a BUNCH of parts and I'm in the process of adding some wires and plumbing. Lots of 'firsts' for me in this build and I'm starting to feel like 'a modeler' and not someone that just throws stuff together with some paint and glue.

Yeah RallyRaider I love the the Jagermeister Orange too. The engine rebuild is coming along well. I'll post a pic or two.

The engine looks way more realistic now, especially the exhaust headers !

EDIT:Those black "carbs" are the stacks of the "butterfly" intake, and the wires going inside leads to the injectors. Just to clarify things.

I have no doubt this will turn out nice !

Thanks for that info Alex. I am going to make sure that this does come out the best.

Here are some progress photos:
