Plastic coated galvanized steel cables that attach from the ARB to the safari rack to prevent branches from hitting your windshield. Look at the pic, if you look closely, you can see them.

I think Todd of EOE has them and so do some of the MAXC group? You can ask them.

That's one fugly truck! Thank God it's not an Xterra or I'd put mine into hiding
![]() Well, at least one good thing can be said about it, he's obviously having fun with his mods. More power to him, it's a free world! But that front end ... yikes. |

I usually choose function over form, but I'd never make my X look like that for the sake of approach angle.
From his signature pic it doesn't look like he really needs the approach angle unless he spends all of his time posing with one wheel on a rock. I think that I'd rather keep the bumper if just to protect my tie rods, control arms, CV joints, CV boots, ideler arm, pitman arm, radiator, and transmission cooler. Not a good trade off in my book.

Like many in the X community, he bought the Manik with the assumption that it actually provided some protection....
But He has since learned the error of his ways and now has an ARB...I must admit though that MVM can be a little fanatical...But hey, aren't we all sometimes.... Here's a link to the original Xterra Tree wires......http://www.globalsoftware-inc.com/coolerman/ Cliff |

Hmmm maybe I should offer these as another CoolKit? I can't claim to have invented these but I was the first X to have them! Here is what you need to make you own set.
Here is a copy of the email I give to everyone in MAXC: In all honesty they are more for the stare factor ;-) Here is a funny story: I had a Rover guy ask me about them in New Jersey at a gas station last week. He was interested in the latch mechanism and the ARB (Which he said he could weld up himself!). He was very snobbish. He said he could design a better way to do the tree wires. It sort of made me mad so I said well if you can then why are you looking at mine? Geez must be a Rover thing which I don't want to understand ;-) He did have a nice Land Rover though... Anyway they don't protect the paint at all but the glass. In reality they only truly work when in very heavy brush where most don't go anyway. Parts list for tree wires: Where Qty Part # Description Price Each Total www.grainger.com 2 #5E650 Latch Clamp, 375Lbs. $10.96 $21.92 www.waytekwire.com 2 #25632 2" Stainless Steel Clamps $.87 $1.74 Lowes 1 8' Stanley Garage Door Safety Wire kit $7.95 $7.95 Lowes 2 1/4 - 3/16" Wire rope clamp $.89 $1.78 Lowes 10 1/4" x 3/8" bolts $.06 $.60 Lowes 10 1/4" x 3/8" nuts $.06 $.60 Lowes 2 Small Carbineer $.99 $1.98 Total $ 36.57 See here for pics of how it all goes together. This was so simple that a write up was never done ;-) If people are interested I will turn this into a kit... |

Tree wires make a lot of sense on Defenders and Jeeps with near vertical windshields.
Not so much sense on the Xterra. Pointless. Just for looks.

I have had numerous trails in which I wished I had tree wires. Especially in the NJ Pine Barrens, you dont have much to worry about in Shamokin, but in NJ the overgrowth is killer. The sides of my X look lovely. Salsa with white accent stripes.
