COMPLETED: Drag Car Contest '77 Mustang II Super Stock

Never again. I have a Mustang II kit lying around doing nothing, I see a contest, I say what the heck. I have never had to do so much kitbashing in my life. I think it turned out alright though

Decals from a variety of drag racing kits. Tires and wheels are resin pieces from (I think?) Model Car Garage. Hood scoop from an old Revell '57 Chevy kit.

I was a little worried that the tires stuck out that far, but that WAS the style in the 70s before tubbing became populer. I think it looks pretty goofy, but it's period correct.

Back bumper is custom fabricated (I used the kit's one for the '74 Nova conversion I built.) Parachute pack is from a Willys kit.

Interior shot's a little fuzzy...

Again, sorry it's a little blurry, just trying to show a good shot of the fuel cell and fuel lines.

Engine bay shot. 351 Cleveland, dual quad intake just like the 70s Super Stock and Pro Stock. Carbs are also resin pieces from Model Car Garage. Distributor is wired, running fuel line with AN fittings to the junction block+filter mounted on the inside of the fender. Brake master cylinder was also plumbed.

Basic undercarriage, stock-based drag cars weren't at all complicated in the 70s. Ladder-style traction bars with the stock leaf rear end, inboard mounted shocks, and subframe connectors.

Be gentle judges!

Looks awsome. The rear reminds me of thoe "highrider" cars J/k. I don't like how the rear wheels sit, but as you stated, it is period correct. Is this the firefighter II mustang II kit? Keep up the great work!

Hey now, let's not get insulting ... the kit is a re-release, re-packaged in AMT's "street machine" lineup.

Ya, piss me off, I saw that Fire Fighter drag Mustang II about 2 days before I finished this one

thanks Tigeraid, my cat "found" my braided hose and completely wrecked all of it, just looking for an alternative as it would take about 3 weeks to get a new roll if i order it. thanks again for the tip.
