Question Old School Vs. New School (bandwidth warning)

OK, I haven't seen this question posted recently, so I will bring it up, hopefully in a way that is not a repost:

NOTE! This is purely hypothetical, so no smart ass replies please. If you don't like the question simply push the back button on your browser window and go back to post whoring.....

Here is the situation.
1. You have $30k usd.
2. You intend to buy a car with said money.
3. You MUST take the car as is, no mods, for 1 year, so you have to be somewhat happy with what you drive.

Would you go with:
1972 Hakosuka Skyline

1996 Veilside GTR
Both are 30k
Which way would you go?

Re: Old School Vs. New School (bandwidth warning)

That would be hard for me. I love the ease of classic Datsun\Nissan along with the look.
Then in the other spot is the chance at a total one off style super car. Being I have the classic Datsun at this time with my 240Z. I pick the 1996 Veilside GTR. As long as I could ditch the wing. Worse part of this is picking a car that I have never seen in person.

Might as well provide a little more information. Here are the engines (if you cant figure out which goes to which, hit that back button at the top left of your screen).

Re: Old School Vs. New School (bandwidth warning)

I really thought you guys would have a little better taste than this. That body kit is fucking disgusting. The stock R33 is a beautiful car.

I love the motor in that '71. And those wheels? What a great look for an old driver. Old cars give you more sensation. This is now a matter of 20+ year old cars VS. new machinery. For the true drivers out there, old cars offer such superior road feel. No matter what you did to that R33, you would never get the same satisfaction in the long run. Viva la olde skool!

I'd go for the old school, just for its rarity and coolness. Just like I'd pick an RX-3 over an RX-8

Re: Old School Vs. New School (bandwidth warning)

I posted the R33 with the ugly kit on purpose. I wanted to see where peoples opinions lie, with full performance over all else? or with classic lines and timeless personality?
Remember, you MUST keep the car as is.
That makes it more fun.

Re: Old School Vs. New School (bandwidth warning)

hell, here in the us I will take which ever one get. I would have to take the new one and "accidentally" break the wing. the old one is nice but more work and wont be as comfortable to drive

Re: Old School Vs. New School (bandwidth warning)

Well I'm a sucker for vintage Japanese vehicles, so I'd have to go with the '72, though I'd really rather have a Minica GSS, or a Subaru R2 SS. Cheaper, still fun - and sadly never sold in the U.S. either.
Besides, who could live with mirrors mounted on their doors? I can barely stand the one on my Renault, I love the fender located mirrors, less dangerous because you never have to take your eyes off of the road, and they have a smaller blind spot.

I'm all about that 1972 Hakosuka Skyline....it just has that vintage sexyness to it.....sure it has less power than the R33, but I think that I would get as much stares with that car than i would with the R33, plus I'm sure that many Auto Enthusiasts would envy me......i've read a story in which this car is so respected, that Japanese Auto Shops won't even dare put bodykits or custom paintjobs on it, nor change rims for that matter...this car is so loved that one guy who imported it to America said that he got phonecalls from japanese gangsters willing to give him large amounts of money for the car...and when he refused he'd start to get death threats...so i think that i'd definately go for the Hakosuka Skyline....hell i'd be all set with driving it stock....now if this were only a real proposition.......
