Old School vs. New School: Mustang Race Car Battle

Ok...so which do you take to the track...?

The 2005 Mustang GT-R

Full specs and story here

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...TR/index.shtml

But let me give you some highlights (for the lazy )

5.0 Liter "Cammer" engine
440HP/400TQ (but can be tuned over 500HP)
Front Brakes - Brembo Racing 6-piston calipers - 14.3-inch rotors
Rear Brakes - Brembo Racing 4-piston calipers - 13-inch rotors
50/50 weight distribution
11.0:1 Compression Ratio/ Redline - 7k RPM's

VS.

The 1970 Mustang Boss 302 Trans Am Racer

Highlights:
Engine good for over 500HP
Quarter mile...mid to low 12's (if not faster)
Won the Trans Am cup in 1970

So which is it gonna be?

I'm going with the GT-R on this one. A 70 Boss 302 would be nice but I saw a special on the Discovery Channel on the making of the GT-R.
A whole lot of work went into the thing and the engine is awesome.
For the finale test of this car they put it up against a 99 Cobra which was a world champion track car or something like that. After a few laps the GT-R had a good 10-15 seconds ahead of the 99.

What was the #'s on the 99 Cobra Race car? Anyways...if I had the weights of both cars...it would be a lil easier to choose...but I dont...anyone got them?

I'm sure 35 years of technology would give the GT-R the advantage...

the boss is damn nice and all but... the gt-r seems like too much of a beast to handle.. wonder which car has higher gas mileage?

Re: Old School vs. New School: Mustang Race Car Battle

You'd be surprised...it doesnt have to be brand new to be fast...

Look at the Shelby Cobra 427...not the biggest engine in the world...but that car can do low 11's in the quarter and can handle VERY WELL...so...dont give the Boss 302 the RIP just yet...

I'm not discounting it at all, but I just don't see how two balls-to-the-wall Mustangs with thirty-five years of engineering seperating them can really compete.

The engines are very comparable...so it's really down to suspension, weight, and brakes...
