how much will it cost to swap an integra type r engine in a 95 gsr

i have a 95 gsr its stock right now. i am saving my money to do something big. I think i want to drop a type r engine into the car im not sure either that or go with a low compression integra engine and bolt on a turbo im still looking around i would prefer to go na with a type r. i think its more fun to build a fast car with the engine u got plus i want my car to last for more than 2 years! any opinions????

well if youre going NA and you have a gsr already why not build what you have? i mean for the 4500 it will cost just for the parts without install you can make your NA GS-R faster then any stock type -r motor. you got a good base already. id say use it. correct me if im wrong and i want to know your opinion when you read this.

damn if youre talkin NA then there are countless possibilties. id start with all the little botl ons like exhaust (get a good one youll need it), headers(get JDM or DC they flow best for the money, but spoon and mugen are the best), intake(i suggest cold air and theyre all pretty much the same. then you start getting to the good stuff. you can swap your pistons to the high compression JDM type R pistons. this will up the power along with the TYPE R cam. but this is for a good evryday driver with good gas mileage. if you want high horsepower you need to get a tuning package or make your own from i would suggest GUDE/BULLFROG performance, TODA, or SPOON. they are all good and you can get over 220hp to the wheels NA with a GS-R motor. do a little research and if you want specifics let me know.

i suggest waiting for the vtec controller after you get the cams and cam gears. running a vtec controller on stock cams does you no good. anyways everything sounds good but if you get one companies product i say stay with that company. like if you get TODA camgears get TODA cams. just my opinion. these companies make their products to work together. think about it. and i would suggest the skunk2 manifold over jg edelbrock. heard much better reviews on the skunk2. anything else?

Let's start by visiting the main differences between GS-R and ITR.
-Weight
-Rigidity
-Power
-Handling/Suspension

First lose some weight. Easiest way is to ditch rear seat if you don't use it and throw out stereo gear. Then look at swiss cheesing some panels and lowing glass windows.

Rigidity/Handling/Suspension can all be taken care of in one fell swoop by getting a good handling package put on. I only know of local companies to me (www.whiteline.com.au) that do this, but I'm sure there are US equivalents.

Power - the GSR (VTi-R in Australia and Japan incidently) motor is what the ITR is based on. The differences are advance timing, camshaft prifiles, intake, exhaust and head work. It is quite easy to get ++ITR outputs with your current engine. The best mods to do to achieve this kind of output is IHE then Stage 2 cams from a reputable source with cam wheels to dial them in, remapped fuel curve and some ignition advance. Then maybe bump up compression slightly.

Hope I've helped. The ITR motor is my favourite all time engine and I advocate swapping them into all sorts of things - but on this project there is no need as your starting with a pretty damn close base.

Ozzie

compression

well he will already be bumpin up the compression slightly by advancing the timing you dont wanna do to many things to higher the compression. I would say a max of 2 but if you advance the ignition timing to much then you dont really wanna higher the compression anymore. i would say like some 11:1 or 11.5:1 compression pistons and advancing timing maybe 4 degrees is cool and as for removing interior and stereo. to me it didnt sound like they wanted a full out drag car.

Ok its pretty stupid if u gonna swap out the gsr for a type r motor. Seriously bro its not worth it. Gsr is already a good motor. Let me make some Few suggestions. Ok here

Skunk2 head with there stage 2 cams.
Skunk2 cam gears
Skunk2 manifold or JG would fine
Dc Sports JDM header

Bottom end:

If u wanna go cheap go with ctr pistons
Get Eagle rods or any aftermarket rods would be fine

Thats minor set up for the head. IF u want to go all out then get it port and polished with 3 or 5 angle valve job.

Mellowboy has it down but along with those cams u should get new valve springs and retainers for those high revs especialy if u want all motor.
