Re: How much will the Evo 8 cost in 4-6 years?
there's no way in hell you'll get an evo8 for under 18K, even after 4 yrs. It may reach under 18K after, what, 8-10yrs?
I'd say about 20-25K, 20 k if a little worn down. you're living in an ideal world, my friend, and it won't happen.

Actually, is *very* possible to buy a used Evo for that price range, by about 2006.
There are a few reasons why. The Evo does have a reputation today of being owned by a majority of "younger" drivers. This adds to the youth appeal of the car but it also raises questions of wear and tear over the long haul, especially if the ex-owners are the pre-described "youthful" driver. But resale values are predetermined by many circumstances; one of which won't go in the favor of the Evo is their current crop of youthful, younger drivers and their driving habits on such a performance car as the Evo. Resale values of Mitsu cars are horrible. The average residual value of Mitsu cars are 25% of orig. MSRP after 60 months. Despite the rantings and ravings of the automotive press all over the world about this car, many suspect that the Evo will fare only just a little better than other Mitsus. I don't know of many Mitsu dealerships offering a lease on the Evo; all because the dealerships fear customers trashing the vehicle. This adds to the impression that the resale value will be lower than an "exotic" car usually demands. Another BIG reason is that earlier in the year dealerships were whoring up their Evos and selling them for thousands above MSRP. This practice has resulted indirectly to bad reps on dealerships. Today, there many, many new Evos still parked in lots at dealerships; not sold. The earlier price gouging tactics have tarnished the Evo. Today any potential buyer can purchase a new Evo for well below MSRP. As a result of this, the average purchase price for a 2003 model Evo is VERY varied; and this will hurt the resale value. Not to mention Mitsu's well-published financial disaster which owed a lot to their disasterous zero/zero/zero financing program.... There are Evo's in the used market today, in the low to mid $20k range, with 10000 to 20000 miles. I own an Evo and would love for its resale value to be high but I don't think it will.... ...just my 2 cents....

Well the statement about cars losing value. Mitsubishi i think does Better than alot. look at alot of the Turboed Eclipses. There worth tons. But as with all turbo motors. Higher mile turbo engines depriciate quicker than a N/A one. Plus AWD retains value like no tommorow.

Re: How much will the Evo 8 cost in 4-6 years?
My 99 Eclipse GSX and others retains high resail because it is AWD and its turbo.
Now the Lancer EVO will have even higher resail because it is limited production, has a strong motor, is saught after by many people, and easily maintained. The EVO will not drop in value drasticly over the next 4-5 years. Just look at the resail of cars with the same general setup. ie, GSX |

the only factor is miles, it depreciates turbo cars faster than N/A .
If the miles get kept down, the price will remain close to the MSRP for a while.

Re: How much will the Evo 8 cost in 4-6 years?
I totally agree with 89Turbo, I have a GSX and its resale value hasn't gone down that much. so i say the Evo will be around 22-25k in tha time period.

awd cars will not hold value in the future like they have been, because they have become so much more common.

As time goes on resale prices will fall just like other cars. Probably not as much as mom and dads family wagon, but they will fall. When the 2nd gen Ford Lightning first came out in 98 (99 model year) it held it's value for a couple years, but as they became more commonplace, and when Ford released the newer, more powerful Lightning, the prices dropped.
If you want a EVO that will hold it's value the longest, save your $ for an 05 EVO MR. Don't know much about it yet, but it is new and improved, more power, different LSD system, aluminum roof, and will be a VERY limited production. RR1 Last edited by EVOlutionary; 09-16-2004 at 04:33 PM. |

Re: How much will the Evo 8 cost in 4-6 years?
the MR won't have much more HP but more torque, tuned suspension, a 6 speed tranny, aluminum roof, diffrent color exterior/interior, different headlights and tailights and comes with lightweight bbs wheels
