Ranger runs like crap after tune-up, help

2001 Ford Ranger, 4.0 Vin-E

I changed the plugs and wires

The old plugs were at .045 to .048

The new plugs I gapped at .054, as I was told they were supposed to be.

But it sounds like I have a miss. Here's what autozone says is the correct numbering for the cylinders and the coil pack:

Coil pack / Cylinders

P 1 2 3
a
s 5 6 4
s

Rear
3 6
2 5
1 4
Front

I used Autolite Platnim 5144

Please help.

It looks like the head may be from a different year ranger. The sticker on it says 2003.

Re: Ranger runs like crap after tune-up, help

Porcelin cracked on #3 plug.. this WILL cause a misfire. Not sure how or why. But it does.

I was practically unable to even get my 5/8 socket on it from the top, so I searched online for a way to change the plugs on an 01 Ranger, and found a link, complete with pictures and details. Had I not found this, it would have taken much longer. I did not know taking the pass. wheel off and the wheel cover makes it much easier.

Here's the link

Hopefully this will help new Ranger owners on their tune-up
