need help asap. hoping to start gto 2day!
hey all newbie here. I have a 1969 gto, factory 400, factory exhaust manifolds. I took the motor apart 6 yrs ago, & 4got the sequence the exhaust manifold go into the heads.
Question: in what order do the varying lengths of exhaust manifold bolts go into the heads? If I can get this answered I can get those manifolds on, & get the car running for the first time in 17 yrs. |

Re: need help asap. hoping to start gto 2day!
Based on your description, I'm thinking you have the "HO" manifolds for a performance application. There should be 4 bolts on one side and five on the other. Set the manifolds "flat" on the flange and "stand" the bolts up in the holes. When all of them "protrude" about the same amount, you're "there".
Rule "of thumb" is that a minimum of the bolt diameter must have threads into the hole to "hold" torque. (32 lb. ft. in this case) Jim Last edited by maxwedge; 04-02-2012 at 09:21 PM. Reason: Jim, cleaned up some typos, same thing I do. LOL |

thanks for the advice. that's the same thing the guy who built my engine told me. I did get them in with that method. As for the HO manifolds, no they were only on the ramair motors or special ordered. Mine are just plain ol stock exhaust manifolds.
