98 Eclipse GS MAF, MAP, intake air temp issue

ok so long story short, after car warms up it sputters then dies. obtained codes from check engine light, MAF, Intake air temp, and MAP all are malfunctioning. when i unplug the MAF while engine is running it eliminates the sputtering and car idle is smooth again. Which part should i change first? i found a MAF fromaround $50, which is real cheap. i havent priced the rest yet but i wanted to ask which part would be better to change first on a tight budget like mine. im assuming the MAF since unplugging it allows me to drive it without it killing. any help would be great, thanks

Re: 98 Eclipse GS MAF, MAP, intake air temp issue

Can you give us the exact codes that are being thrown by the CEL?

The GS model DOES NOT have a MAF sensor. Are you sure this isint the turbo model? The non turbo model uses speed density to calculate fuel which only needs a MAP sensor. Im not sure which sensor you are calling the MAF but we do not have one on the 420a.

Re: 98 Eclipse GS MAF, MAP, intake air temp issue

sorry its a 1998 eclipse spyder non-turbo, and as far as i can tell from all the research i have done there is a MAF located on the air intake right after the air filter.

the three codes i get are: p0110, p0100, p0105

Re: 98 Eclipse GS MAF, MAP, intake air temp issue

Ok that makes more sense, the spyder does have a MAF sensor. All three of those codes are related to the MAF as well. The chance of all three of those sensors going out at the same time is not very likely. You might want to start looking at other options. I would first make sure that it is plugged in all the way. Swapping in a different MAF would be a good idea to either eliminate that possibility or solve the problem. Then start looking into the wiring if that doesn’t fix the problem.

Re: 98 Eclipse GS MAF, MAP, intake air temp issue

Forgot to mention the cause of the issue, or at least what I think caused it. I crossed the positive and negative cables when jumping the car. After that is when the problem started.

Well that doesnt make any this any easier.. I would start testing to see if you are getting power to the MAF plug. At this point I would try replacing the MAF and if that doesnt fix it maybe the ECU.
