Hey, I want a sunroof and a new WRX, am I screwed?
I went into the website for subaru and found that the WRX is not offered with a sunroof. What gives? Will there ever be one available? If so, when!

You could always have one put in... Just be sure some one who knows what they are doing and is going to do a good job does it. 'Cause you really don't want them to stuff it up, leaking sunroofs are bad

Hmmm. Thanks for the response. I realize that this is such a small item for such a great car, but I think it's a detail I can't live without.

I have a moonroof installed in my WRX sedan that cost ~$1000 (excluding labor) and was installed (or at least taken care of by) my local VW/Subaru dealership. Its very good quality with vent-ability and two presets and because all the roof beams were retained it only results in a 3% drop in torsional rigidity which is negligible in term of overall handling.
![]() also I think in UK its offered as a factory option.

Awesome! Do you know who makes a sunroof like that?

considering that the wrx has a built in roll-bar it would be very detrimental to install a sunroof in it. the bar is hiden under the roof lining. i dont know of any dealership that would be willing to make such an alteration.

do a search on i-club. I can't remember which, but there was a thread on installing sunroofs. Quite interesting reading, as there were both supporters and naysayers on the topic. There was a guy who had one installed on his WRB WRX and I thought it looked good. You could probably PM him and talk to him personally, if you're that interested in getting a sunroof. I believe he did say that he hadn't noticed any adverse effects.
just my thoughts. |

getting this done would also add weight. if you want to get the most out of it HP wise, then you should consider the dissadvantages the will cause.

ah jeez.. its not like you're running an NHRA pro stocker. i doubt if the roof adds any weight at all considering the steel roof and headliner are being replaced with glass and plastic. if theoretically there is any weight increase it can't be any more than a couple of pounds.. you could burn that off in a week.
