different intake

Just wondering, does anyone know what difference one intake brand has from another... Or does it add hp just because of the sticker?

I have heard that there is not a huge difference, I have the AEM short ram on my 02 civic and love it, sound, response, everything is excellent. Others like injen intakes. I have only had experience with AEM.

www.carreviews.com go see what others have to say.

I'd would just with AEM. They have a wide base of satisfied customers and I haven't heard one complaint yet.

Well first of all, I would lose the short ram and just get the CAI. And because they are all fairly inexpensive I would stick with a name brand. I agree...I have never heard anything bad about AEM. Personally I have Injen CAI. I would say the best though is an Iceman. Expensive but you can really tell the difference.

Talking

I have the AEM CAI that's the way to go, I made some testing with the following results:

Stock Box with KN OEM replacement filter: Very nice and very quiet set-up. Good low end power and torque and not bad for traffic.

Short Ram : Very good sound and very loud at WOT. If you stop for 5 minutes in traffic you will notice a BIG lack of power because its absorbing all the hot air inside the engine bay. Didn't like it, it sucks !!!

CAI : The way to go if you want power, torque and sound . After a traffic stop for 20 minutes, you have all the power the engine can deliver, and it sounds great too. Funny vacuum cleanner sound on idle .

By preference, CAI -> Stock Box -> Short Ram.

Be happy !

i got generic CAI and KN filter. I spent 100 bucks. Unless you're in cali and need the CARB #s under the hood get the cheap version. But get the CAI type.

AEM CAI's are nice, but a little on the pricey side of the bar. I built my own CAI, its exactly like the AEM one. All the parts for the intake itself totaled $30 dollars, and I bought a nice rechargable K&N filter for $40. The whole thing took 2 hours to build/install, and it runs great, sounds great, and you feel better knowing you did it.

Here is the howto I used to build mine: http://www.teamdelsol.com/howto/coldair/diycoldair.htm
The page explains how to make it for a Del Sol, but the instructions are basically the same for all Civics...

Youre not just paying for a brand name.Youre paying for quality.
Construction materials have to do with the Intake. Some of them prevent heat better than others, thus improving the HP numbers. Everyone says theyre all the same thing but dyno them and see the result. If you buy just a stainles steel pipe that heats like a MOFO it will not be the same as buying an intake that was designed to work better (any brand you name it) due to the construction and materials used.

Plastic intake, ceramic coated intake, stainles steel or aluminum intake... they all react to heat and conduct heat diferentlly thus giving you different results in the HP department. Granted that the difference is not huge(probably 1-3 hp) but theres difference.

AEM's products are tuned for best performance and quality. Sure you can buy stuff from eBay for $20, but it's not the same as having a quality piece under there. I guess I just like to have quality stuff under the hood not rigged JimboGarage stuff from ebay.

Dude..I didn't even mentioned AEM on my post and FYI i don't have an AEM CAI. Im with the group thats loosing HP so don't get all cranky about it.

I just said that construction materials help in the way the intake deals with heat thus producing cooling air(resulting in more hp) or heat air.I just stated the not all intake sistems are the same as everyone claim and they do not produce the same HP # as everyone seems to say......
If you want to take your 100 anyday that's cool but i guess that whats true is that we all get what we pay for.

If all intakes where the same i would have bought an AROSPEED front mount intake LOL
