2001 blower motor
Just wanted to see if anyone has had experience removing/reinstalling and finding a blower motor for my 2001 lesabre limited. I have the kickplate removed and a rap gets it going. I'm particularly interested in its removal and if there are any different versions of motors for this year.

Re: 2001 blower motor
I'm not sure on the year, but I think they have replaced the one piece units, with two piece units.....the old one piece style was as hard to remove as it was to re-install.....the two piece design is much easier to install(kind of like the Grand Am's/Grand prix's)...

Re: 2001 blower motor
I was able to pull the blower motor out after loosen the 6 - 7/32 hex screws. It turns out the the commutator needed to be cleaned. So with some med grit sandpaper, I cleaned up the copper and the sprayed contact cleaner on the brushes, After testing it, the motor responds instantly. Now, I'm in the midst of trying to reinstall and talk about a PITA. Spent an hour trying to reinstalling and then called it a day. Any tricks, other than cutting the rubber, are welcome

Re: 2001 blower motor
Like I said, I'm pretty sure the new ones are two piece.....you install the base first and then the motor easily slips in.......
Like you, I wrestled with that son of a gun putting it back in(I had peeled the carpet back for more room), but even then it was still hard....don't remember how I got it in....twisted and turned it the right way and got it back in......then I remember another tech had the same problem......he broke it, trying to force it in.....when we ordered the replacement, the new two piece setup came in, and it went together like "buttah"! |

Re: 2001 blower motor
I got the blower in. I had to cut the rubber floor mat. Once cut, it went in quite easily. I cut the piece out so that it could be put back into place. The left screw closest to the the firewall was the most difficult to reinstall. A 7/23" wrench would make things easier. I left the foam gasket out that goes between the top of the housing of the motor and the lower part because it was too difficult to keep in place while trying to fit the 2 pieces together. A little adhesive might have helped. The motor works just like new. I thought about ordering a replacement but since the motor just needed a cleaning, I put it off. It will be interesting if/when I need to buy a replacement what the new design looks like. Thanks for the advise Tech II.
