What to look for when buy?? 93 240SX

Hey guys -

Looking at buying a second car and one of the cars I am interested in is a local 240SX. Has 132k miles. 4cyl auto. Trying to figure out what to look for in these cars, any problem spots, etc. I am pretty car literate but don't know jack about 240s. Looking for a reliable commuter thats fun.

Any help? Not looking to mod the car...$ right now is going towards my other and currently only car.

TIA!

240sx what to look for

check out the condition of the Timing chain. has it been replaced? listen to the engine at idle to see if it makes a lot of noise. the engine is inherently very bullet proof but check out the chain issue. otherwise it is just basic mainenance issues like shock, springs, brakes, etc. great car. i have a 93 with 102,000miles. no problems yet. Getting ready to replace original front disc brakes. they lasted a long time. I have had it since 32,000 miles. I love it.

The timing chains are tough though, so ya shouldnt have much to worry about, but hes right better safe than sorry. Anyway, 132k miles, kind of high (well, no, not really, but still). Take it to a mechanic and have it looked over, even though you are car literate what could a second opinion hurt? Another thing if you find anything questionable (look for body damage and all that) run the VIN and get a history.

Thanks guys. After changing a wheel bearing over the weekend on my car with only 59k miles, I'll look at those as well. Going to keep looking for standard tranny as well I think....not sure if I can transition back to an auto...although would be good for traffic.

Thanks again.

if it has a rear spoiler check underneath for rust. also check the hatch and sunroof seals if equipped. intake tubes have been a problem for me. if any tubes are broken it doesnt run very well. one more thing if it needs an alternator or power steering pump plan on spending 200 bucks a piece
