VTEC Head
I am in the process of selling my Talon (POS)....its not reliable, and unfortunently it is an auto. Not to mention it is N/T. Anyway, I have a friend who is a huge honda fan...he has talked me into buying a 91-93 Teg, and slapping a VTEC head on it. What kind of torque/hp increases should I expect, once this is done?
I had one question that he could not answer. Can one put i-VTEC on a Teg? |

Sorry I don't know about the gains, but I know you can't put on a i-vtec head on a b-series engine, because they have to match. I don't know the engine codes to the new RSX engines, but I know for sure they won't work because the RSX engines are totally different from the conventional Honda engines. Everything is backwards compared to the old Honda engines.

What your friend is talking about is called an LS/VTEC where guys with to much time on thier hands stick the head from a DOHC VTEC (B18c)integra onto a non-VTEC (b18b) Integra.
Its not as easier a swap as it sounds, as thier is some machine work, and some wiring, as well as requireing a new ECU etc. If your looking to buy a new Teg then your better of starting with a GSR, in which case you get better brakes etc to handle the extra hp to start with, as well as DOHC VTEC built as Honda intended, not some back yard mechanic.

i doubt that whoever thought of putting the head from a B18C onto a B18B is a backyard mechanic, backyard mechanics are the kind of people that try to patch up a rusty muffler with duct tape.

not to disturb all your train of thought but 92-93 GSR is a LS block w/ Vtec head on it. It is the original head swap. It has no features of b18c like oil sqirters and such. Its a 1.7L engine wich is odd.
when you swap the head and ecu and do all the work needed it will give you about the same output as the 1.7L engine. you can play with milling the head and such to increase the compression, wich will also increase the HP output. |
