Opinion on flat black paint job

I was going through some old issues of SCC today to pass the time, and came across their flat black STi;it looks mean as hell. Anyways, I just wanted some opinions, as I want to try this on a model, mainly to speed it along; I'm trying to pick out and put out my first model in quite a few months, and I think that something simpler like this will help. I'm just asking which cars you think would look best with a flat black paint job...I'm looking towards newer import/tuners/whatever you want to call them, not really old school muscle cars. I want to see something new. Thanks in advance!

almost anything, Flat black would only look bad on high end cars like Ferrari's and Mercedes

SCC has done a few flat black project cars. I painted my R32 flat black after I saw their S13. It came out okay. Looks decent, but after seeing it on my shelf for a few months, I think a nice glossy finish would have been better. Go ahead and try it.

Re: Opinion on flat black paint job

I think flat paint will look exaggerated on a scale model. Full scale flat paint will look more like small scale satin black, or any black sanded down with very fine grit.

Will built a Cuda and painted it flat black and it was about the easiest paint job I've ever seen done. It lays flat and doesn't orangepeel, and looks very cool

Do a flat black supra with flat black rims! Then when you run from the cops you can hide in the dark woods.

I prefer Model Master Black chrome. I've done a whole series of modern movie Batmobiles in various shades of black. The bigest down side to any black or very dark finish is photographing your finished model.

Ahh... Have you seen the Do-luck JZA80 supra late type demo car?
Put it this way, if I ever get a 1:1 JZA80, it will be satin black...

Re: Opinion on flat black paint job

Agree with the guy who said Flat will look overdone with a 1/24 scaled car... maybe satin black will look better. In fact, if you look at that SCC STI... it almost look like a semi-gloss but maybe a little more flat but I mean just a little. You're still able to see some minor reflection on it, it's not "entirely reflection catching". Well, that's how I see it.

For the kind of car, I saw a wild choice of car in the flat paint version. Car 1:1 that I know include:... from a 69 Chevelle, 57 Chevy... I can go on like that until a heavely modified VW GTI Mk3... that was turned into a pick-up. The color is Nimbus Gray (audi catalog) with a lot of flat base coat. The guy live not too far from home and it has 3 turbos !!! A killing machine but it's off topic now !!
